Taman Sentosa Plaza, to Cease Operations This November and Undergo Redevelopment Johor Bahru’s 1980s Landmark, Taman Sentosa Plaza, to Cease Operations This November and Undergo Redevelopment Taman Sentosa Plaza, a popular landmark among Johor Bahru residents and Singaporean visitors in the 1980s, will officially cease operations on November 30 this year, followed by a demolition and redevelopment plan. Reportedly, the property owner has notified he plaza’s current shophouses tenants of over 80 businesses including restaurants, herbal medicine shops, convenience stores, hotels, and entertainment venues on the redevelopment plans as early as last December and they must vacate the building by December 2 this year at the latest. Some businesses have already begun searching for new locations, while entertainment venues are expected to relocate to other malls in Johor Bahru. Sources have denied rumors that the plaza was acquired, emphasizing that the redevelopment is led by the original owner, with further details yet to be announced. Originally built in 1984 as United Square, the plaza was once one of Johor Bahru’s busiest commercial hubs, home to Emporium, banks, restaurants, and nightclubs, earning it the nickname “The City That Never Sleeps.” It was renamed Taman Sentosa Plaza in 2007 and underwent renovations in 2012. Now, as this beloved landmark prepares for demolition, many are eagerly watching its future transformation.
