Have UOB gold savings account for 20yrs plus, 500gms! Every time it goes up $2 plus I sell, down I buy. Bank only charge 10 cents difference plus very minimum monthly service charge. Profit $1k every time I sell. Enough for pocket money!

If you are talking about speculating Gold... then I believed you should be refering to Loco-London Spot Gold (interbank) trading. Similar to FOREX trading, the precious metal has a bid/offer spread. 1 tic minimum is US$10.
There are also GOLD futures contracts available and traded in COMEX (Commodity Exchange in CME, Chicago). With electronic trading easily accessible, it can be used to Hedge or do spreading strategies including Options.
