DJ MARKET TALK: Singapore Shares May Rise On Wall Street Gains
0044 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore shares may rise on Wednesday tracking gains on Wall Street overnight Tuesday as markets await the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, where traders say a clear verdict in favor of either candidate will help quell uncertainty and boost markets. "For now the bulls won the day as they looked forward to the stranger called political uncertainty leaving town for another four years," says Justin Harper, market strategist at IG Markets. Among stocks,
United Overseas Bank (
U11.SG) is likely to be in focus before reporting its earnings after market close.
Sembcorp Marine (
S51.SG) may also be in focus after the world's second biggest rig builder fell 6.0% to S$4.41 on Tuesday because its earnings disappointed investors

Precious metals are mostly under pressure in early Asia as the results of the U.S. Presidential elections start trickling in. Analysts expect that a win for Obama will be bullish for gold prices because of his support for accommodative monetary policies, with UBS expecting a short-term rise to $1,725/oz. On the other hand, many believe a win for Romney would be gold-negative, with some expecting a more hawkish Fed chairman come January 2014. Spot gold is at $1,710.13/oz, down $6.74 from New York's informal close, silver is at $31.83/oz, down 19 cents, palladium is at $614.20/oz, down $1.8, while platinum is at $1,552.50/oz, up $1.50.
