DJ MARKET TALK: Singapore Shares May See Tentative Gains - SIAS
0046 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore shares could repeat Tuesday's pattern of tentative gains amid low volumes, as its recent rally seems to be fizzling out, says SIAS Research analyst Roger Tan. The STI added 0.1% to close at 3118.33 Tuesday, and has risen in 14 of the last 17 sessions. "There appeared to have been some fund flows into Asia from the U.S., and some window dressing that pushed the index up in recent weeks, but this doesn't seem very sustainable," Tan says. "Unless there are some real macroeconomic indicators showing an improvement in Singapore's economy, there's going to be a question mark over the valuations here, even though it's still relatively cheap compared to other markets like Hong Kong." Profit-taking could set in later this week, but the STI may still creep toward the 3200 level by year-end, he adds, tipping the index in a
3100-3200 range.
Singapore Airlines (
C6L.SG) is in the spotlight after
Delta Air Lines (DAL) confirmed late Tuesday it is buying the Singapore carrier's 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic Airways for US$360 million.
