Woman dies after allegedly consuming supplement, Health Ministry launches probe
VENESA DEVI
PETALING JAYA: An investigation has been launched into allegations claiming that a woman died after consuming a supplement, says the Health Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Division said an early investigation revealed that the product contains glutathione, an active ingredient listed under the Negative List of the Drug Registration Guidance Document (DRGD).

“Therefore, the product does not comply with Section 13B(2)(d) of the Food Act 1983, which prohibits the addition of any substance that is not permitted under the Act or any regulations under it,” it said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 9).

It added that further investigations are being carried out on the matter, including verifying the authenticity of the claim and the details of the product.

It added that further investigations are being carried out on the matter, including verifying the authenticity of the claim and the details of the product.

“This includes product details such as labelling compliance, ingredients used, manufacturing premises, importer, and distribution in the local market.

“We are also tracing the original source of the claim to confirm its validity,” it said, adding that checks also found the product was being sold on online shopping platforms.

The ministry said there have yet to be any social media posts found that could confirm the allegation.

“Based on preliminary searches, there are no social media posts from close family members or acquaintances confirming the alleged death of a woman after consuming the said health food product,” it said.

The ministry urged anyone with further information that could assist the division to contact 03-8885 0796 or email [email protected]

It was previously reported that a woman had allegedly died after taking a RM20 supplement she bought online.
