A 72-year-old Malaysian man, Lim Kwet Fah, was sentenced to six months in jail and fined S$2,000 for overstaying his visa. He was charged under the Immigration Act. According to court documents, Lim had entered Singapore in 2006 without having a valid pass. Shin Min Daily News reported that he had entered using a social visit pass back then. Lim was arrested on Nov. 27. It was not disclosed how he was found out. After he was unable to provide evidence of his legal residence in Singapore, he was handed off to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. Shin Min reported that Lim had made a living as a karang guni man, and he had not left Singapore since 2006. In court, Lim, who appeared haggard and sat on a wheelchair, pleaded guilty. During his plea, he said he was old, his legs were weak and he felt like he had only one to two years left to live. He pleaded for leniency and said he wanted to return to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to spend the rest of his life in a local nursing home. Image from Canva and Mothership
