DJ MARKET TALK:
Precious Metals Higher On Dip Buying In Early Asia
0001 GMT [Dow Jones] Precious metals are higher in early Asia trading amid modest dip buying, with tensions between Palestine and Israel likely to keep prices supported. "We believe that a compromise will be reached between the two camps before the end of 2012," says BNP Paribas metals strategist Anne-Laure Tremblay; "however, until then, uncertainty may boost the gold price." Some analysts expect market volatility to increase in coming sessions as talks about avoiding the U.S. fiscal cliff--a combination of tax increases and spending cuts scheduled to kick in from January--step up a gear. Spot gold is at $1,718.24/oz, up $4.54 from New York's close Friday, silver is at $32.41/oz, up 10 cents, platinum is at $1,558/oz, up $2 and palladium is at $627.70/oz, up $2.70.
