DJ MARKET TALK: STI Likely Up A Tad; Fiscal Cliff Talks Eyed
0059 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore's STI is likely to open with small gains but remain little-changed amid holidays in major markets and as all eyes remain on negotiations among U.S. lawmakers to avoid the looming fiscal cliff -- tax increases and spending cuts that start Jan. 1. "The U.S. -and the world- is in for another week of political brinkmanship after last week's stalemate," Phillip Securities says in a note to clients. The STI may respond to gains by stock markets in Asia, most of which have opened on a positive note. The benchmark closed with a gain of 0.2%, or 5.01 points, at 3168.57 on Monday and the local market was closed for Christmas on Tuesday
