DJ MARKET TALK: Singapore STI May Open Weaker; Thin Trade Seen
0054 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore's STI may open slightly weaker on Thursday after U.S. stocks fall Wednesday, but volumes are likely to remain low for the rest of the week, says Jason Hughes, the head of premium client management at IG Markets Singapore. "Risk assets generally underperformed last night after a relatively buoyant Asian session. We expect thin holiday trade until we probably get some information on how or if the fiscal cliff (in the U.S.) will be avoided," he says, adding the STI may continue to "nibble around" its high points of 2012. The STI closed 0.4% higher at 3180.81 on Wednesday, its highest close since Aug. 1, 2011.
Olam International (
O32.SG) may be in focus after it calls a shareholder vote on its proposed rights issue of bonds and warrants to raise up to US$1.2 billion.
Fraser & Neave (
F99.SG), a target of rival takeover bids, may also be in focus.
