DJ MARKET TALK: Singapore's STI May Open Bit Higher - IG Markets

0048 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore's STI may open a bit higher after hopes of avoiding a U.S. budget crisis increased with reports the House of Representatives will reconvene early to try to avert the fiscal cliff. "It may open a bit higher but we expect it to remain relatively flat," says Jason Hughes, the head of premium client management at IG Markets Singapore; "the story still remains the U.S. budget... (The news of) further meetings scheduled on Sunday boosted investor confidence and left us on a better bid note than if things hadn't progressed." Volumes are likely to remain low as many traders are on vacation. The STI ended up 0.1% at 3183.93 on Thursday, after tapping an intraday high of 3192.07, its highest level since Aug. 1, 2011
